About MAC·LA

An Evolution 18 Years
in the Making

MAC·LA — Music, Arts & Community · Los Angeles — is the evolution of an 18-year tradition. What began as Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles has grown into something larger: a bilingual, community-driven cultural movement rooted in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

Since 2007, we’ve reactivated MacArthur Park’s historic 1959 bandshell, transforming a once-dormant space into a thriving outdoor stage. Every summer, we bring world-class free concerts to the lawn — honoring the Mexican, Central American, Indigenous Latin American, and multi-cultural communities that call this neighborhood home, while welcoming music lovers from every corner of Los Angeles.

Over the years, acclaimed artists including Los Lobos, Bomba Estéreo, Tank & the Bangas, La Santa Cecilia, Fishbone, Y la Bamba, Inspector, Kinky, Nortec Collective, and GRAMMY winners across 20+ genres have performed here.

The Evolution

The Name Is Changing.
The Heart of the Work Remains.

Building off a legacy of offering free summer concerts in MacArthur Park for the past 18 years as Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles (Levitt LA), Music, Arts, Community·Los Angeles (MAC·LA) was born. The name is changing, yet the heart of the work — rooted in culturally connected programming — remains the same.

MAC·LA expands upon this foundation to offer career pathways into one of the global epicenters of the creative economy: Los Angeles. MAC·LA is an evolution into a culturally resonant, community-led organization that aligns with its mission and past work of offering free, high-quality music and arts programming in MacArthur Park and beyond.

This is an opportunity to move forward with a renewed focus on place, people, and possibility — building long-term reciprocal relationships that focus on collaboration, creativity, and access.

MAC·LA allows us to grow beyond MacArthur Park and a summer season, while still honoring the legacy of this land being on Tongva, Kizh, and the territory of many Indigenous communities. The name keeps the spirit of the original location while offering flexibility to activate in other parks and communities across Los Angeles.

Land Acknowledgment

Honoring the Land and Its People

MAC·LA honors the legacy of this land being on Tongva, Kizh, and the territory of many Indigenous communities. We recognize the importance of naming, honoring, and building relationships with these communities as we continue to activate cultural space in MacArthur Park.

MAC·LA is committed to building long-term, reciprocal relationships rooted in collaboration, creativity, and access — for everyone, always.
