Bringing the vibrant, rhythmic heartbeat of Afro-Indigenous culture to Honoring Central America Night, the GAHFU Garifuna Drumming Ensemble is the premier professional performance group of the Garifuna American Heritage Foundation United (GAHFU). Founded right here in Los Angeles in 2005, this non-profit organization and its talented ensemble are dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and sharing traditional and contemporary Garifuna culture.
Audiences at MacArthur Park can expect an immersive and deeply rhythmic experience. The ensemble features a captivating lineup of professional musicians and performers, including primera (lead) and segunda (bass) drummers, shaker players, Gayusa (traditional singers), and dynamic dancers. Together, they create a high-energy atmosphere that honors the rich history and ancestral roots of the Garifuna people.
Under the passionate leadership of President and Founder Cheryl L. Noralez, the group does more than entertain—they act as cultural ambassadors. Whether performing for schools, universities, or massive community celebrations, the ensemble’s mission is to promote Garifuna history and cultural appreciation across Southern California and beyond.
